The 3D Relief Pop-Realism Style
Also known as 3D Relief Circlism
Definition
3D Relief Pop-Realism is a digital art movement founded by the artist Fawaz on 5 October 2026. It bridges decades of classical inspiration with a structural, digital evolution of circlism, growing out of years of professional photography, photo editing and digital realism in Photoshop and Procreate.
Traditional digital circlism builds a 3D illusion from flat circles. This style introduces Tiered Geometric Layering: hyper-realistic facial features and micro-lens eye details are rendered first, then smaller, elevated circles are stacked precisely over a base of flat circles. The result is a physical, embossed, pseudo-3D pop-art relief that interacts with directional studio lighting and deep chiaroscuro shadows.
The founding work
Winning Mentality, recorded on the day the style was founded: the lion relief revealed layer by layer.
Principles
- 01
Hyper-real foundation
Every piece starts from hyper-realistic facial features and micro-lens eye details, rooted in professional photography and digital realism.
- 02
Tiered Geometric Layering
Smaller, elevated circles are stacked precisely over a base of flat circles. The tiers, not a single flat field, carry the image.
- 03
Micro-realist texture
Each layer keeps meticulous surface detail, so the work rewards both distance and close viewing.
- 04
Geometric deconstruction
The subject is broken into circular units and rebuilt, keeping likeness while exposing structure.
- 05
Light-responsive relief
Directional studio lighting and deep chiaroscuro shadows make the surface read as embossed and physical.
Lineage & influences
The idea that an image can be built from discrete units of colour that the eye blends at a distance.
The circle-based movement founded in the 1960s by the late Kuwaiti pioneer Khalifa Al-Qattan.
Portraits built from flat digital circles by the Belgian artist Ben Heine. 3D Relief Pop-Realism adds raised tiers and real shadow.
Bold colour and graphic punch, here placed over photographic realism.
